One for the grandchildren - High Barn 19/02/05

At the grand old age of 6 weeks and 2 days, Joseph and Tev made it to their first ever gig, namely Daddy and his friends supporting Moses, and promptly slept the whole way through...severe critics already, we see. Mum Helen was there of course but gave up here chanteuse role in favour of her sister Jo, who did a stonking job with 'Not That Kind Of Girl' and 'Antibike' on her first ever stage appearance, with little or no visible nerves.  Good lass.

A peculiar line-up of 2 x guitars, bass, fiddle and piano this night, which led to some interesting improvisations and different areas of light and shade. Tony Turrell did a magnificent job on piano before jetting off to Scotland, presumably to see his big mate Fish. It was a real pleasure to have him along, and I'm pleased to say that quite a lot of the gig was captured on video courtesy of Keith Farnish. At some point I might put some of it up here, once I've grappled with the technology.

A couple of new or new-to-us songs were debuted, with pleasing results - and a packed Barn seemed to enjoy the thing as much as we did.

The audience went into raptures for Moses as they launched their new album 'Golden Flatts', which I encourage you to buy - here - in fact buy the first one while you're there as well. Many thanks to the Moses boys and girls for having us.

More tea? - Rehearsal shock horror!

The Blue House snug was rocking at the seams over the weekend as an interesting line-up of Shane, James, Gib, Fiddly and Tony Turrell mucked about with songs in preparation for Friday's show at The High Barn. Older choons were re-jigged and new ones introduced to accommodate the strangely banjo-free set. Helen was inside the house minding the twins with Mrs. Kirk, so little sis Johanna Mulley came and sang a few. We're delighted to report that as a result, Jo will be singing with us for a bit on Friday. Ever the musician's musician, Tony sprinkled fairy-dust liberally all over our songs and we can't wait to play them to y'all like this as it's quite interesting to hear how they have developed/changed for the occasion.

Banjo Barnes will be back as soon as he's not busy doing summat else, which goes for all of us really...but the day's work was a testament to and recommendation of the marvellously liquid but nonetheless accomplished Blue House ethos. (Sorry, just having a go at getting in to "Pseuds' Corner").

PS Mother and babies doing very well.

Please welcome two new Blue House additions...

James & Helen are delighted to (somewhat belatedly) announce the safe arrival of two healthy, bouncing boys, namely Joseph James Partridge (7lbs 5oz) and Thomas Everett (Tev) Partridge (6lbs 14oz), in the early hours of 05/01/05.

The boys are doing very well, as is Helen. They share their birthday with Walter Mondale, Umberto Eco, Diane Keaton, Robert Duvall, King Juan Carlos I of Spain and Chris Stein out of Blondie, which is........ um.....interesting.
